This course assists students to integrate knowledge derived from
the bio/psycho/social sciences, psychology, nursing and current literature to
achieve safe, competent care of pediatric patients and their families who are
experiencing normal development and alterations in body systems. Course content
is organized by the nursing process in order to achieve best practice outcomes
for pediatric patients and their families.
The first part of the course deals with the peri-operative
management of clients. This course is to prepare the students acquire
appropriate knowledge, skills and proper attitude in the peri-operative care of
clients utilizing the nursing process. This course includes a study of the
patient's peri-operative experience, role and responsibilities of the surgical
unit nurse, intra-operative nurse, and the post anesthesia nurse, principles
and practice of sterile technique.
Knowledge and understanding:

the 3 phases of the surgical experience of the client. Identify appropriate
surgical classification and pathological process of client’s
surgical experience

the preoperative preparation of the client for surgery. State the
responsibilities of each member of the surgical team.

maternal problems complicating pregnancy. Explain the pathophysiology and
etiology of the various pediatric disorders.

Recognize
the signs and symptoms of every pediatric disorder.
